Not much has happened so far this year. I love my new classes for once. Aje, Diana, and Jeff are coming home for the summer soon! I can't wait. On a sad note, this spring one of my all-time favorite drummers, Randy Castillo, who played for Lita Ford, Ozzy Osbourne, and Motley Crue among many other bands lost his battle with cancer on March 26th. Layne Staley, who was the frontman for one of my favorite bands, Alice In Chains, was found dead in his home on April 19th. He had been deceased for about a week, and it was presumably a drug overdose that caused his death. The only thing that angers me is that MTV did not give either of them the proper respect and tribute that they deserve. Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez of TLC passed away and got all of these huge tributes within 2 days of her death, and Layne Staley was barely mentioned on MTV news. Randy Castillo got no mention at all to my knowledge. Alice In Chains had a huge impact on the music industry, and most bands on the radio today were probably influenced by them in some way. Randy Castillo was one of the most respected drummers around, and was Ozzy Osbourne's drummer for longer than any other person. Both of these guys deserve a fitting tribute, which I doubt MTV will ever give them.
On another sad note, my favorite band Megadeth has broken up on April 4th, 2002, due to an injury that Dave Mustaine sustained. He has a compressed radial nerve and he cannot play guitar for a long time. I hope he makes a full recovery and maybe we will see a Megadeth reunion one day. I forgot to mention that when I made this update originally, because obviously two great musical geniouses passing away is more important than a band breaking up. It's going to be wierd without the megadeth.com message boards (although, if you are reading this and you were a member, 90% of the gang still post over at www.ultimatemegadeth.com) and there being no new Megadeth albums or tours. I am so glad I got to see them and meet them on their last tour. And they were totally going back in the right direction and getting cooler and cooler. The new material they were working on was supposed to be way heavier than The World Needs A Hero and I was really looking forward to it. If you want to read more about it click here.
